It's printed on the sidewall of the tire you have right now. Look for something like P215/55R17. Bring that code to any store or type it into our online lookup — we'll match it exactly. If you're unsure, we'll read it off your car in the parking lot for free.
The legal minimum is 2/32" tread depth, but most tire makers — and our techs — recommend replacing around 4/32". The easiest home check: stick a quarter into the tread head-first. If you can see the top of Washington's head, it's time.
It depends where you drive. North of I-70 (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana north, Wisconsin, northern Illinois), dedicated winter tires are a real safety upgrade from November through March. South of I-70, an all-season tire rated for light snow will get you through most winters. We'll tell you straight which category you fall in.
For a standard set of four passenger tires: 42 minutes average, from pull-up to drive-away. That's mounting, balancing, new valves, and a torque check.
